The Lockdown gives asylum seekers reprieve and hope for change in policy

As Britain takes its first small steps out of lockdown, there is one group of people quietly wishing that it wouldn’t. For many asylum seekers, the two-month hiatus has meant reprieve. Freed from detention centres, liberated from the threat of imminent deportation and no longer obliged to report to the Home Office, many have welcomed the relief. I know it sounds bad to say, but I felt like coronavirus should not go,” says Maimuna Jawo, a Gambian asylum seeker and female genital mutilation campaigner who had to report to the Home Office once a month before March. “My fear now is that normal life will resume and I’ll have to start reporting again.” Before lockdown, Jawo was under orders to report to Eaton House immigration enforcement centre in Hounslow, west London, on the first Wednesday of every month. The preceding nights were always sleepless. “I...

It's no secret that we're in the Covid-19 era. Everything and everyone is affected in some way, shape or form. As we stay home, we've had to find ways to keep ourselves sane; be it via Netflix, Video calls (Houseparty/Zoom),  Tory Lanez 's  Quarantine Radio , or being more active on Social Media. I, personally, have played my role in "gingering" Instagram Live battles between Nigerian producers e.g Sarz VS Shizzi,  Masterkraft VS Pheelz , E Kelly VS DJ Coublon, and more. In truth, the IG battles didn't start with us. Swizz Beatz & Timbaland have had " Verzuz " going all Covid season, where American greats get to pit their catalogs against each other, with my fave so far being  T-Pain VS Lil Jon . We at notjustOk.com have decided to take things in a slightly different direction - inspired the good folks at  There's No Signal  - by hosting our own "battles" tagged  #NotjustokVS . #NotjustokVS , while it carries the "battle...

Nigerian musician, Tony Oneweek has reacted after the Inspector General of Police ordered the probe of E-Money and withdrew his police escorts.   Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, is a businessman, the CEO of 5 Star Music and also the brother of singer Kcee.   Reacting to his probe, Tony Oneweek shared an old photo of E-Money and Kcee at a time when they were still struggling and he wrote:    NOBODY INVESTIGATES YOUR POVERTY. Nigeria sef. When E-Money and his elder brother Kaycee Limpopo were in the street, police didn't investigate him oooo. Now he is rich, they want to investigate his wealth. Like my brother OC Emcee said: "Nobody investigates ur poverty". I am happy that E-Money has the "required" Goodwill that set him free (within a few hours) from this aborted embarrassment. Emeka is a good man. He is different, benevolent and very humble. Some Igbos do not love themselves shaa. Sad to hear that E-Money's travail was ignited by a fel...
